Yapı Kredi has undertaken corporate social responsibility activities in the areas of archaeology, culture-arts, youth-education and the environment in 2006.

Çatalhöyük

Yapı Kredi continued its ongoing support for the Çatalhöyük excavations since 1998, which are significant both for Turkish and world heritage as one of the first settlements in the world (7000 B.C.) and include the first murals and statuettes. In order to create awareness and allow a wide audience to have access to the findings of Çatalhöyük excavations, an event was held for the first time at the Vedat Nedim Tör Museum in collaboration with Yapı Kredi Culture and Arts Publications. The most extensive Çatalhöyük exhibition in Turkey was opened, entitled “Çatalhöyük from the Earth to Eternity,” between 26 May- 30 September 2006. The exhibition catalogue was enriched with articles by senior archaeologists and became a reference book as such. In addition, the latest book of the Head of Excavation, Prof. Dr. Ian Hodder, was translated into Turkish and subsequently published. The exhibition aimed at creating public awareness in the subject as well as increasing the production of Turkish publications on Çatalhöyük, in addition to providing financial support for the excavations.

The concert also coincided with the 150th anniversary celebrations of Turkish-Italian relations.

Sevda - Cenap And Music Foundation

The International Ankara Music Festival, which has been held for 22 years, was also supported in 2006, as part of the ongoing collaboration with the Sevda-Cenap And Foundation.

Education Volunteers Foundation Of Turkey - “I Am Reading I Am Playing” Project

All companies under the umbrella of Koç Financial Services were included among the corporate donors of the Education Volunteers Foundation of Turkey between 1995–2004 and supported the activities of the foundation. In 2005 the Adana Akkapı and Ankara Seyranbağları educational units were taken on board in order to maintain our support to the foundation. In 2006, a 5 year full sponsorship was granted for the “Reading Hour” events implemented in all educational parks and teaching units of the TEGV. The event’s content would be enhanced under the title of “I am reading – I am playing”, along with related physical improvement in the venues and support for additional activities.

TURMEPA

In 2005, Yapı Kredi decided to support the Environmental Education Program to be realized in association with the Clean Seas Association / TURMEPA and the National Ministry of Education, in order to create awareness among elementary and middle school pupils who are young though will become founders of the future. The scope of the project involves the cleaning and protection of our shores and supplying healthy living platforms to future generations. In this framework, a five year Educational Project Protocol was signed with the National Ministry of Education.

This project aims to create awareness in all our elementary and middle school pupils of the threats facing our seas, and raising a sense of the environment in young people from an early age. After the educational content of the programme was prepared by a specialist board, around 6,000 students were reached by the end of the year through the teacher training launched in 2006. The educational courses continue at full speed.
